NLRB General Counsel, Newly-Appointed by President Trump, Denies Workers Their Day in Court

(Detroit) — Late yesterday, at the direction of newly-appointed National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel Peter Robb, the agency withdrew the complaint and cancelled the trial.

Our UAW members perform some of the most fascinating jobs, but sometimes it surprises us to learn that our members do that!? At the Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, Michigan, members from UAW Region 1D, Local 2256 are zookeepers working with some of the world’s most beautiful – and deadly – animals. The zoo is home to over 160 species of animals, many of which are threatened or endangered, including Amur Tigers, Red Pandas, Bali Mynah Birds, Snow Leopards, Tamarin Monkeys, Bongos and more. Jorge Rodriguez, an international representative from Region 5, led a group of UAW volunteers who worked tirelessly in six cities on the island for two weeks: As one of the first volunteer groups to arrive in Puerto Rico, we witnessed firsthand the ravages of Hurricane Maria. It’s no exaggeration to say that this storm will leave scars on the island for many years to come.

The rally call of “Buy American” isn’t new, but the proposition looks very different in 2017 than it did in the 1970s. Back then, there were almost 20 million workers in the U.S. making goods in factories across the country (today, it’s 12.3 million). These workers made clothes, baseballs, toys, blue jeans, electronics and a host of goods you could find in your neighborhood store. If you want some Brach’s candy in 2017, it will come from their factory in Mexico.
